Sheriff offers free classes needed for concealed carry, only in the state of California

COURTESY: DEL NORTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (KIEM)

DEL NORTE COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)-Del Norte County residents interested in fulfilling the requirements to legally carry a concealed firearm are in luck, Sheriff Erik Apperson will offer classes beginning April 8th.

The classes are free, but anyone interested must submit an application, including fingerprints, pass a background check from the California Department Of Justice and be willing to be interviewed by the sheriff.

Training will consist of both in classroom and live fire instruction.

Apperson says the permit is issued in Del Norte County and for the State of California.

It’s not a permit to carry a concealed weapon outside of the state. Certain areas within the state are restricted as well.

“It’s important to me that I support people that want to own and carry firearms legally and responsibly. I have been a firearms instructor and range master for many years. With firearms education, comes firearms safety,” said Sheriff Erik Apperson. “This is a way for me to help make our rural area a little safer.”
