HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — New guidance from the CDC is letting fully vaccinated individuals ditch the mask in some instances, but that doesn’t mean your chance of still catching Covid-19 is zero.

If you happen to get sick, you will likely have no symptoms, or at the very worst, some mild, cold-like symptoms. Mildly symptomatic Covid-19 is extremely rare, occurring in less than 0.026% of fully vaccinated people, based on the latest data from the state.

According to Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman, that means of the 50,000 plus Humboldt residents that are fully vaccinated, only a little over a dozen would have had a positive Covid test.

“That’s exactly what we are seeing so far in reality. If you are fully vaccinated, you can be nearly certain that this is nothing worse to fear than a cold or a flu. When fully vaccinated, Covid-19 is no longer 5 to 10 times more deadly than the flu,” Hoffman says.

Health officials encourage anyone experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19 to get tested regardless of vaccination status.
