FIRE CREWS IN HOOPA ARE STILL MOPPING FIRE

The fire affected twenty-eight 28 homes that had to be evacuated yesterday afternoon, but residents were allowed to return by 8:30 in the evening.

The fire department used the Zonehaven evacuation notice system to inform the public of the fire.

The fire department had live updates on the Hoopa OES page on Facebook.

With the Hoopa Fire department, Gregory Moon says this fire was suspicious right from the beginning.

“We don’t have any suspects because the fire is still under investigation but yes we are taking our arson problem here in the Hoopa valley very serious. We have investigators of Bureau Indian affairs and from Cal Fire working together to catch any arsonist in the area, ” said Gregory Moon.

As of 1 PM today, the fire was 30 percent contained, with crews controlling the control line and mopping up the hotspot.
