Arcata, Calif. (KIEM)- The latest California Highway Patrol Cadet training class was finally able to graduate after a long wait. The graduation was delayed due to precautions for Covid-19 and the closure of the training facility. There’s an assumption that CHP wasn’t hiring because of the pandemic and issues regarding budget cuts. Fortunately, that is not the case.
“In fact, even more, we are attempting to attract female officers people of different ethnicity’s and backgrounds. So we can kind of mirror what we see in California,” said officer Victor Aguilar.
Aguilar says the pandemic did affect their ability to be able to meet face to face with possible candidates. This year 119 cadets graduated,18 women and 101 men.
