Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna Adds new ICU

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- The Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna will be opening a new intensive care unit with four spacious, technology-updated rooms. This ICU will allow more complicated surgeries and the ability to treat more patients with common illnesses that require several days of critical care.

“Today, Redwood has a small four bed ICU but its definitely crowded. This new ICU will have a modern, calming environment. There will be plenty of room for loved ones to visit as well as two isolated rooms for patients with contagious diseases like Covid-19,” said Dr. Roberta Luskin-Hawk, Chief Executive of Providence in Humboldt.

The new ICU costs approximately $3.6 million. Many donors made this possible for the Eel River Valley community like the Murphy family who donated $835,000 to support the expansion of the hospital.

“Eel River Valley has been so supportive of Redwood. The Redwood Memorial serves an important role for the whole community so we’re so grateful for our supporters. We’re expected to have the most successful fundraiser we’ve ever had,” Paul McGinty, Chief Philanthropy Officer.

RMH is also hosting the Annual Benefit Ball Virtual Fundraiser and Auction this Saturday, November 6th. The proceeds will go directly to the new intensive care unit.
