ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM)- For the last month or so, Lumberjack Arena has heard the scretching or sneakers and pounding of balls coming from the women’s volleyball team, but soon those sounds will be coming from the women’s basketball team.

“I think it’s going to be a good year,” said freshman forward Madison Parry.

With a completely new roster, Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson said they used this extremely long off season to prepare for this season and build chemistry.

“We spent a lot of time individually with the players and working on their individual skills,” said Bento-Jackson. “We didn’t do a whole lot of team concept type practices but we did instill a lot of player development.”

Not only are the lady jacks excited to dust off their sneakers and hit the hardwood, but they are excited to see the stands filled up.

“I’m just really anxious and excited for the players to truly feel what the Humboldt community, the support that we get here,” said Bento-Jackson. “You can feel the fans and you can feel their energy. It’s like no other and I’m just really excited for them to experience that themselves.”

The Lumberjacks will open up the season on the road playing in the West Region Crossover Classic in Seattle, Washington facing off against two tough teams in Western Washington University and Seattle Pacific University.

Then they finish off non-conference play against Dominican University. Then the new look jacks will begin it’s 22-game CCAA season at home with a pair of games on December 2 and 4 against San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay.
