EUREKA, Calif.(KIEM)- The free hiring information day and learn event was held at Post Office in Eureka to help out those looking for a career. The post office is known for its excellent benefits, but they are still one of the many having a hard time recruiting for open positions.

“We do have a hard time hiring… I’m not sure exactly why because the jobs are great jobs,” said Maria Lane, WorkForce Planning Specialists, at the U.S. Postal Service.

The U.S. Postal Service said they saw a spike in packages before the pandemic and that demand only increased during the pandemic. With the holidays around the corner, they are currently in high order.

“A lot of people are just shopping online, and especially up north, it’s a lot more convenient for our customers too. Where they might not have that access to a lot of stores, it’s easier for them to order online,” said Kristina Uppal, Strategic Communications Specialist at the U.S.Postal Service.

The U.S. Postal Service hopes to host job fairs more frequently to fill up those open positions.

For those interested in a career with the U.S. Postal service that missed the job fair, you can visit your local post office and ask the supervisor on duty what the hiring process is like.

“A night and day experience… I feel respected. The community enjoys helping me out. My coworkers are a joy to be around… it’s a good job,” said Cinna Diaz, Employee at the U.S. Postal Service.
