Murder Arrest

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) An Arcata man is being held in the county jail tonight without bond. He is accused of murdering another man during a fight. 50-year-old Russell James Holt of Arcata is the accused killer. He allegedly attacked a 70-year-old homeless man on the night of February 2, 2022, near the north town foot bridge which is by 17th and G streets. The victim was found lying un-responsive on the ground and was rushed to Mad River Hospital where he died. Police have not released the victim’s identity… Or indicated what sparked the deadly assault. Holt has a prior criminal record that includes burglary arrests in Arcata and Eureka.
