Gateway Area Plan

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) The Arcata planning commission on February 8, 2022, took a look at the latest draft of the city’s ‘Gateway Area Plan’ to create more housing. Under the proposal, 138 acres near downtown Arcata would be re-zoned. This will allow for thousands more housing units to be built. As part of that plan,’K’ and ‘l’ Streets would be converted into one-way streets for traffic. A new biking and walking trail would be created. The city’s community development director told the commission that this is only the beginning of the process. He says there will be plenty more opportunities for community input before any final decisions are made.
