Artillery shell was found at the scene yesterday in Eureka. | Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office

If you heard an explosive boom last night in Humboldt County, you’re not alone.

Dozens of you wanted to know – what caused the two booms heard around the bay?

It turns out, a Eureka resident found a large artillery shell in their backyard and called police.

They responded to the home near H and Hodgson Streets.

The Humboldt Sheriff says the County’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal team then took the shell to the Samoa area where they set it off.

Two explosions could be heard as far away as Eureka.

Did you hear it? What did you think it was?
