The Community Access Project for Eureka (CAPE) is gathering Halloween costumes for kids in need from ages zero to 17.

“Every year we put on our Halloween costume drive and giveaway,” said Sierra Wood, the Homeless Services Coordinator. “We work with local partnering agencies, several local shelters like the Betty Chinn Homeless Foundation and the Eureka Rescue Mission to match children in need with Halloween costumes.”

CAPE is looking for brand new Halloween costumes. They are the most in need of infant and teenager sized costumes.

“We ask community members to bring donations of new Halloween costumes to the Adorni Recreation Center anytime they’re open,” Wood said. “We’re taking them up until October 26.”

Last year they gave away 59 costumes to kids in need. As of today they only have 17. Hosting this Halloween Costume Drive is a part of CAPE’s life programs.

“Everything we do at CAPE we try and put on different quality of life programming to make sure that, you know, during the holidays it can be a financial stress for a lot of families just needing to go buy costumes, buy gifts and presents and things,” Wood said. “So anything we can do to help kind of ease the financial burden and make that holiday time more of a time for celebration and just happiness. That’s what we’re here to do.”
