ARCATA – Following the Josiah Lawson murder this April the Arcata community, city, and university have been working together to make students feel safe.

Arcata City Manager, Karen Diemer, says she has heard complaints from students not feeling safe even before Lawsons murder. She says because of that the city established 7 working groups over the summer to make sure students are feeling welcomed. This year the City Police Chief and the Campus Police Chief will be holding student safety forums, in addition there is a group working on developing a bias reporting tool for students. Diemer says everyone should feel safe not just on campus but in the Arcata community.
