MCKINLEYVILLE, Ca (KIEM)- Shanna McCracken and the Panthers softball team have brought McKinleyville High School hope after the sudden death of a student on campus.
Mack claimed its first Big 5 title in softball since 2011. Senior McKenna Turner has stepped to the plate and in the field in a very big way for the Panthers.
She has experienced some ups and down during her high school career at McKinleyville. First, Turner and her family had to deal with the death of her dad Scotty. McKenna told Redwood Sports he was a big inspiration.
Her health was then a concern. Turner missed the last two years with a torn ACL but the senior battled back and returned to the diamond. The coaching staff had the perfect role for the senior and made her a utility player filling voids all over the field.
The Panthers clinched the Big 5 league title last Saturday in Eureka. Now the Panthers prepare for the league tournament and NCS Playoffs.
