Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Man for Loaded, Stolen Firearm

Weitchpec, Ca. (KIEM) — A man is in custody after sheriff’s deputies find him in possession of a stolen firearm.

On December 21st just before 11 pm, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies were on patrol in the 22,000 block of State Highway 96 in Weitchpec when they observed a male subject occupying a 4-wheeler and openly carrying a firearm on his chest. The man provided deputies with a false name, but was later identified as 56-year-old Gary Dean Lewis.

Upon further investigation, deputies learned the firearm was loaded and reported stolen out of Shasta County. Lewis is a convicted felon on probation and prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.

Lewis was arrested and booked on charges of possession of a loaded, stolen firearm, false identification, and violation of probation.
