MCKINLEYVILLE, Ca. (KIEM)- Two burglars caught red-handed thanks to a vigilante neighbor and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Jane Dice is a longtime resident on “A” Avenue in McKinleyville, she says just learning about Saturdays foiled burglary attempt has made her a bit uneasy.

“That’s scary, but we’ve been home this whole time,” Dice said. “We’re on house arrest like everyone else.”

Everyone else but the victim of Saturdays attempted home burglary, those residents were gone at the time of the crime. Their neighbor, who knew they were away, called police.

At about 6:30 p.m. deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person.

When deputies arrived at the 1800 Block of “A” Avenue in McKinleyville.

Two male suspects were found inside the home and attempted to run but were ultimately caught and arrested.

40-year-old Edward Balke and 43-year-old Gale Crook JR. were taken into custody, both found to be in possession of a burglary tool.

Balke is charged with felony burglary, resisting arrest, and probation violation.

Crook JR. is charged with felony burglary and possession of the burglary tools

Dice isn’t surprised that a neighbor is credited with making the call.

“We’re a pretty good neighborhood as far as keeping track of each other,” she said.  “I’m glad they caught them, are hard people are going to try to get money any way they can.

Dice’s neighbor who did not want to be identified has been the victim of a home robbery.  She says it’s the worst feeling in the world.

“I felt so vulnerable, you know couldn’t sleep for quite a while,” unnamed woman said. “I slept with the lights on.”

She said at the time of the incident she thought about moving.

And for those thinking about committing crimes in her neighborhood…

“Not a good idea. Not a good idea at all cause, we are all watching,”Dice said.
