CHP Asking for Public’s Help in Identifying Vehicle in Hit-and-Run Collision

Garberville, Ca. (KIEM) — California Highway Patrol is asking the public for their help in identifying a vehicle in a hit and run collision that left two people injured.

On May 29th shortly after 3 pm, Rio Dell resident William Legrain was driving his Kia Sedona northbound on Highway 101 just south of Barkdull Road. An alternate traffic pattern was set up for maintenance and repairs, when an unknown vehicle traveling southbound collided with a temporary traffic divider that was dividing the two lanes of traffic. It then became airborne and collided with the Kia going through the front windshield.

The passenger, Caitlyn Shaffer, sustained major injuries and was transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital. One child in the backseat sustained minor injuries. Legrain and another child in the car were uninjured.

Anyone with information that would be helpful is asked to contact the CHP Garberville area office.
