Heroin and firearms found during traffic stop

MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif. (KIEM) – Almost 200 grams of heroin and a loaded firearm were discovered after a traffic stop took place in McKinleyville.

Around 9 a.m. Sunday morning, a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled a vehicle over in the 1600 block of Central Avenue, for multiple vehicle code violations.

The driver, 39-year-old Richard Barry Moon Jr., had a felony post release community supervision warrant.

The two passengers of the vehicle were detained and released at the scene.

During the vehicle probation search, items including a loaded shotgun, a stolen rifle, 196 grams of heroin and $6,000 in cash were found.

A probation search also took place at Moon’s home where an additional firearm was found.

Moon was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on multiple felon and violation of probation charges.
