AHHA offers mobile shower Care-A-Van to local community

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)- Volunteers for the Affordable Homeless Housing Alternatives are providing a shower caravan two days every week to the homeless community.

The organization has a goal to expand their services all throughout Humboldt County.

The mobile caravan was made possible through grant funding provided by the city.

The mobile caravan comes all the way from the the Midwest. Being made in Illinois the caravan offers two bathrooms and one ADA accessible bathroom. Ten dedicated volunteers assist those who use the services by providing them with shampoo and conditioner, new clothing, hygiene kits, and even a haircut if they would like.

Shower monitors time the guests for approximately twenty minutes and clean the showers thoroughly in between uses.

But it doesn’t stop there, volunteers are still actively seeking donations from the community. Items of clothing are in high demand such as towels and bulks of shampoo.

According to the organization, over 1500 residents in Humboldt are living outside with no place to call home. Volunteer’s state that is their main reason for making this caravan possible and lending a helping hand.
