Training begins for CR Athletics

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – College of the Redwoods announced that teams will begin training and conditioning next week.

After months of planning and coordinating with health officials, College of the Redwoods can now hold conditioning classes. Athletes will return but with major changes. They will be required to wear masks at all times and train in pods of ten athletes or less. Teams will practice two days a week. No more than two sports will be conditioning at one time.

Each team has a set of protocols tailored to that specific sport. In addition to a screening process, there will be no equipment sharing and sanitizing breaks will now be included in practices.

Athletics Director Bob Brown said the focus is not on beating opponents, it is on the well-being of athletes. The future is still unclear, but CR Athletics hopes to provide athletes with a connection to their sport once again and keep students engaged in their academics.
