Slater and Devil Fires burn close to 150,000 acres

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — Firefighters continue to battle the Slater and Devil Fires that have burnt about 150,000 acres up in Del Norte and Siskiyou Counties.

The Slater Fire is 143,092 acres with 10% containment, and the Devil Fire is just over 6,900 acres and is still 0% contained. Crews have also been assigned to the Fox Fire burning in the Klamath National Forest. That fire is just over 1,500 acres and has prompted evacuation advisories and orders for the Callahan area.

Highway 96 has re-opened to one-way traffic, but Highway 199 remains closed from Panther Flat to the California-Oregon state line and from O’Brien South across the state line into California.
