88 new Covid-19 cases, 5 more hospitalizations reported in Humboldt County since Friday

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Public Health Department reports 88 new cases of Covid-19 since Friday. Five new hospitalizations have also been reported since Friday. Health officials are monitoring 236 active cases.

In the last week, 42 new cases have been reported in northern Humboldt, 148 in the greater Humboldt Bay area, and 14 new cases in southern Humboldt.

For the second week in a row, the biggest increase has been among people in their 20’s with 51 new cases followed by people in their 30’s with 36 new cases. People 80 years old or older have reported 26 new cases in the last week. People in their 40’s saw 24 new cases, and 10 to 19 year olds reported 21 new cases. People in their 60’s saw 18 new cases, 70-year-olds saw 12, and people under the age of 10 saw 9 new cases. The smallest increase was among 50 year olds with 7 new cases.

The mean age of cases is 37. When it comes to gender, 48% of cases are in men and 51% in women. The gender of 1% of cases is unknown. On a more encouraging note, 29 more recoveries were reported bringing that number to 857.

One final note. Because of the rise in Covid 19 cases, the Yurok Tribe will be closing off their reservation for 3 weeks. It applies to all non-residents. The tribal government and law enforcement will continue to operate. There have been 15 confirmed cases of Covid-19 on the Yurok Reservation.
