DEL NORTE COUNTY, Ca. (KIEM) – Caltrans says its crews have been grading the hillside to a more sustainable angle and installing rock anchors and a mesh netting on the slope.
Long term, a permanent fix has been narrowed down to two options: more work to shore up the hillside along the highway or a tunnel that would go around the area. The State legislature must make a final decision.
As far as the Memorial Day weekend is concerned, Caltrans says the highway will be open- but expect 30 minutes delays and one-way traffic control.
