Rio Dell declares a drought emergency

RIO DELL, Ca (KIEM) – The city of Rio Dell has declared a drought emergency.

At a special meeting on Tuesday night, City Council Members voted to pass a declaration that includes voluntary reductions in water usage and to activate the city’s underground water well site.

Officials want to reduce the amount of water being taken from the Eel River.

The last time the city’s well had to be activated was back in 2018, when another drought situation left the city with no other option.
