SoHum Health Increases Wages to retain Employees and Obtain Future Healthcare Workers

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- SoHum Health located in Garberville operates several hospitals, clinics and a pharmacy in Southern Humboldt County. They are looking to expand their healthcare system with over a dozen immediate positions to fill.

In order to recruit and retain healthcare workers, SoHum health is now offering all employees commuter pay, $.20 per mile.

The Healthcare District Governing Board also voted to increase the pay for all of their employees.

“Our job as a district hospital is to offer great services to our community. The most important part of the services we offer are our employees that take care of the patients. So we’re taking some of our money and put it back in our district,” said Matt Reeves, CEO of SoHum Health.

Personnel at SoHum are hosting several community outreach events in Humboldt County to reach out to possible candidates and offer information on what SoHum health has to offer.

“it’s rural down there in Garberville so staffing can be challenge for us because of location. Being a rural critical access hospital, it’s important to maintain staff especially because during covid,” said Jennifer Baskin, HR Manager, SoHum Health.”
