You can help keep somebody warm this winter by donating a coat! The last day to donate to the 8th annual “Coats for Kids” coat drive is tomorrow (Dec.16). Distribution of the coats — to the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods begins this weekend.

The Benchmark Realty Group’s coat drive is coming to a close. After about a month of generous donations, one Benchmark realtor, Katy Boham says that it was the biggest turnout yet.

“We received a ton of new jackets this year and people started buying online and having them shipped here to our office instead of having to go out to the stores,” Boham said. “This has been the biggest one for sure. I think we’re going to count them in a little bit, but we’re somewhere around 200.”

The Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods have already started distributions today and will continue for each sight throughout the rest of next week.

“Our kids are the lucky kids who get to receive the code, so each of our sites will get coats delivered to their site,” Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club, Monica Rose said. “The kids get to go through and pick out which coat they would like to have.”

And since winter is here, these coats will serve a lot of purpose for the kids receiving them.

“It’s been pretty cold this winter already so, to get the coats out before their break is going to be really important for the kids,” Rose said.

There is still time tomorrow to donate and it’s not just coats you can drop off.

“We’ve had some people donate cash, drop off a check to us, and then we go shopping with their funds for them,” Boham said.

Drop off time at the Benchmark Realty Group ends around 4 p.m. tomorrow at: 818 6th St. You can also make donations at the Boys and Girls Club administrative office at: 939 Harris St.
